What do you like to do on a nice sunny day in Hollywood? Why not take a stroll down the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame! Once you park you car in the LAX parking lot, make your way and marvel at the thousands of pink stars that celebrate the successes of some of Hollywood's greatest and most talented celebrities. You might even get lucky and see your favorite celebrity receiving his/her star!

Facts

Before leaving the LAX parking lot and heading off to find your favorite stars on the Walk of Fame, read up on the following facts. The Hollywood Walk of Fame has more than 2000 five-pointed stars that feature the names of celebrities honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. These stars are awarded for their contributions to the film, television, recording, radio or live theater industry. Each start is made of terrazzo and comprises of a pink five-point star that is rimmed with bronze and inlaid into a charcoal square. The name of the honoree is engraved in bronze and a round bronze emblem shows which entertainment industry the award was received (i.e.: television).

History

The Walk of Fame was first created in 1958 by Californian artist Oliver Weismuller. It began with 2,500 blank stars and 1,558 stars were awarded during the first 16 months! Since then, two stars have been added each month. In 1978, the City of Los Angeles designated the Walk of Fame to be a Cultural/Historic Landmark and by 1994, a number of additional stars were installed. The Walk was therefore extended west past Sycamore to La Brea Avenue. It now ends at the Silver Four Ladies of Hollywood Gazebo!

Miscellaneous information

It is good for LAX parking customers to have a few unique facts up their sleeves when visiting the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame! Did you know that it s a tradition for fans to place flowers on the "star" of a celebrity who has just died? In fact, Beatles fans gather each year at John Lennon's star to commemorate the anniversary of his death. When you visit the Walk of Fame you will also find that fictional characters such as Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse have also received stars in the past! The 1st star was awarded to Joanne Woodward on February 9th, 1960 and in all of the Walk's history, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are the only twins (and the youngest recipients) to receive a star! For stars have also been stolen in the past! Stars of Jimmy Stewart and Kirk Douglas were removed during a construction project and were later stolen! Other stars that have been stolen include one of Gene Autry's stars as well as one of Gregory Peck.

Recent Celebrities found on the Walk of Fame

As you head over to the Walk of Fame from the LAX parking lot, you are probably wondering who you will find there! Among the many celebrities awarded stars in 2005, you will find names such as Tim Allen, Charlize Theron, Antonio Banderas and Jullian Moore awarded for the contributions to the movie industry.
