The Walk of Fame was first created in 1958 by Californian artist Oliver Weismuller. It began with 2,500 blank stars and 1,558 stars were awarded during the first 16 months! Since then, two stars have been added each month. In 1978, the City of Los Angeles designated the Walk of Fame to be a Cultural/Historic Landmark and by 1994, a number of additional stars were installed. The Walk was therefore extended west past Sycamore to La Brea Avenue. It now ends at the Silver Four Ladies of Hollywood Gazebo!
