Los Angeles has many fantastic art museums located throughout the city for art-lovers to explore. The website http://artscenecal.com/ has a good list of art museums in the whole region, as well as maps and other important information.
Located about 10 miles from the LAX parking lot, this is Los Angeles' primary art museum with world-class exhibitions. Special events take place every weekend here: there are free Friday night jazz concerts in the courtyard and Friday and Saturday night screenings in a great classic-film series. The motto here is: “experience the world through art”, and there are a number of interesting exhibits to see here. Located about 20 miles from the LAX parking lot, this is a major force in modern art in the United States. In 2002 the museum hosted the first major Andy Warhol exhibit in more than a decade and was the only North American stop on the tour. The permanent collection contains art from after 1940, with major pieces by de Kooning, Hockney, Lichtenstein, Pollock, and Rauschenberg. Visit http://www.moca.org/index.php for more information about the Museum of Contemporary Art, including current and future exhibits, directions, and hours.
This art museum also has fantastic architecture, offering many types of artwork. The Center in Los Angeles has European paintings, drawings, sculpture, manuscripts, and European and American photographs. There is also another site in Malibu, just recently opened, that is dedicated to studying the art and culture of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Between these two museums, you are sure to find artwork that interests and amazes you. The museum is also involved in Holocaust-era provenance research, as well as research and projects related to the museum’s collection.
This museum is part of UCLA, featuring Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art from famous painters such as Monet, Pissarro, Sargent, Cassatt, and van Gogh. Their mission is to “enhance the full range of human experience... with a special emphasis on the art of our time”. Visit http://www.hammer.ucla.edu/ for more information.
Many of these museums are within a few miles of the Los Angeles Airport, and they are very easy to get to. Parking at LAX is so easy that you can travel to the airport with ease. LAX has thousands of parking spaces in various lots, with free shuttle service to airline terminals is provided around the clock from the main lots. Another option is Johnny Park, an indoor parking facility at LAX. This LAX parking facility is completely enclosed and very secure. There is a ventilation system to protect your car in the parking lot, which will protect your car from jet fuel and other air pollutants.
